From March 2015 to June 2016, we invited 120 artists—local, national, and global—to choose individual works of art or galleries that sparked their imaginations. In this online series, artists reflect on what art is, what inspires them from across 5,000 years of art, and in so doing, they reveal the power of a museum and The Met.

Rashid Rana

His works are in various public and private collections including the British Museum London, Metropolitan Museum New York, Fukuoka Museum of Art, Japan and Saatchi Collection, London. He is the recipient of the prestigious Game-Changer Asia Art Award and was awarded International Artist of the Year by SAVAC Canada in 2003. Notable for his ideas, imagery and pictorial strategies, Rashid Rana has worked in dramatically different mediums, such as paintings, stainless steel sculptures, video installation, photo-sculptures and photo mosaics. He has exhibited extensively at various galleries and museums globally. He is the first living artist to have a “survey solo exhibition” at the Muse Guimet Paris. In 2015, his work was included in landmark exhibition entitled The Treasures of the World from British Museum, which was held at the National Museum of Singapore and along with Rashid Rana’s work had 239 objects from the entire Human history. A contemporary painter and artist from Pakistan

Rashid Rana (Urdu: راشد رانا) is a Pakistani artist. He participated in numerous exhibitions, both in Pakistan and abroad while working on themes like urbanization, faith, and tradition on canvas, billboards, digital media and more.[1]

Life

Rashid Rana was born in Lahore, Pakistan. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan in 1992, and a Master of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, Massachusetts, US in 1994. He is currently Dean and one of the founding faculty members of the School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD), Beaconhouse National University, Lahore.[2]

Art career

Utilizing mediums such as painting, video, installation, and photography, Rana's works deal with everyday issues encompassing such themes as urbanization, faith, and tradition.[citation needed]

His mentor is Zahoor ul Akhlaq.
