Richard Lamar Hawk is an American singer and rapper known by his performance name Silento’. Born in Stone Mountain, Georgia on January 22, 1998. Silento,’ an only child, was raised by his mother and aunt after his parents’ divorce.

Silento’ expressed an interest in music early and by the 8th grade he was in a rap group that performed at birthday parties, school events, an a few TV shows in the Atlanta area. He also promoted himself on various social media platforms. This persistence, confidence, and creativity by the young artist eventually generated great success.

Seventeen-year-old Silento’ contacted Timothy Mingo known as Bolo Da Producer, to create “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).” He also connected with DanceOn (a dance entertainment brand) which in turn partnered with TuneCore (a music distribution company) which contributed to the song’s viral social media success before it was officially released.

On May 5, 2015 “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” was released by Capitol Records as a single and as the video became a hit sensation, it helped the song peak at number 3 on the Billboard Hot

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Hawk is best known for his 2015 debut single "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)", which charted at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 when he was 17 years old.

In 2021, he was arrested in DeKalb County, Georgia and charged with the murder of his cousin, following two arrests from the year prior due to breaking into a random home using a hatchet and then driving 143 miles per hour (230 km/h) on a Georgia highway.

Rapper Silentó, known for his viral song “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” was arrested Monday in Georgia and charged with murder.

Silentó, born Richard Hawk, was arrested for the killing of his 34-year-old cousin Fredrick Rooks, the DeKalb County Police Department shared on Twitter. On January 21, police officials investigated Rooks’ death after finding him dead with multiple gunshot wounds on Deep Shoals Circle.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitutionreported that the rapper is being held without bond.

Silentó rose to fame when his “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” debuted on May 5, 2015. The catchy number also featured an accompanying dance that soon became viral on social media platforms including Instagram and Twitter.
