James Blake (born 26 September 1988) is a Grammy-winning electronic musician and singer-songwriter from London, England, United Kingdom. Blake is primarily considered a dubstep producer and is frequently heralded as a leading figure in the "post-dubstep" community, but he is also noted for his prominent soul influences. Blake was nominated the Critic's Choice award by the 2011 BRIT Awards and the Sound of 2011 award by the BBC, and won second place in the latter. In addition, his self-titled debut LP, James Blake, was nominated for the 2011 Mercury Prize. Blake has also released material under the alias Harmonimix.

James Blake began his final year at Goldsmiths in September 2009 studying popular music while recording songs in his bedroom. In July 2009, he attended the Latymer School and released his debut single "Air and Lack Thereof" on Hemlock Audio. It was a firm favorite with Gilles Peterson from BBC Radio 1, and Blake was invited to do a special mix on Peterson's worldwide show, which included an exclusive Mount Kimbie track.

James Blake Litherland (born 26 September 1988)[1] is an English singer, songwriter, and record producer. He first gained recognition following the release of three extended plays—The Bells Sketch, CMYK and Klavierwerke—in 2010. He signed with A&M Records to release his self-titled debut album (2011) the following year, which was met with critical praise and peaked within the top ten of the UK Albums Chart.[2]

Blake departed A&M in favour of sister label Republic Records, on which he released his second album, Overgrown (2013) to further critical and commercial success; it likewise peaked within the chart's top ten and moderately entered the US Billboard 200.[3] His third album, The Colour in Anything (2016), was followed by his 2018 single "King's Dead" (with Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and Future), which peaked at number 50 on the UK Singles Chart and number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following his three critically acclaimed albums, 2010’s ‘James Blake’, 2013’s Mercury Prize winning ‘Overgrown’ and 2016’s ‘The Colour in Anything’, James Blake has established himself as one of the worlds most talented and influential musicians.

Since 2010 he’s won an Ivor Novello award for best contemporary song for Retrograde, received his first Grammy Nomination (Best New Artist) and has played sold-out live shows in some of the most prestigious venues in the world including The Sydney Opera House, Radio City Music Hall and Glastonbury Festival. He remains a founding member of the 1-800 Dinosaur label collective and earlier this year hosted a successful BBC Radio 1 residency.
