Western Caspian University

On February 13, Professor Huseyn Bagirov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Western Caspian University, met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Antalya Belek University, Ekrem Çalkılıç and the delegation led by him.

During the meeting, Professor Huseyn Bagirov welcomed the guests and provided detailed information about the history of the university's establishment, educational process, specialties, international relations and dual diploma programs.

He also emphasized that the Western Caspian University cooperates with a number of higher education institutions of Turkey, and noted the importance of expanding cooperation in priority areas and conducting joint scientific research works.

What have been the most prominent achievements for the Ministry over the past year?

Azerbaijan has made considerable progress in improving its environment over 2014 with significant changes made in the fields of biodiversity protection and forest development, as well as considerable increases and improvements in greenery areas, drinking water, and other spheres. The indicators for the protection and restoration of forests are improving steadily. The areas covered by forest have been expanded by more than 1 million ha, an increase from 11.4% to 11.8% of the country area. For nine months, reforestation and sourcing activities were carried out in an area of 2,300ha in which 3.2 million trees were planted. Huseyngulu Seyid oglu Baghirov (Azerbaijani: Hüseynqulu Seyid oğlu Bağırov; born in 1955) is an Azerbaijani politician who used to serve as the first Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Republic.^[1]

Early life

Baghirov was born in 1955 in Quba District, Azerbaijani. In 1978, he graduated from Baku State University with a degree in history. While in college he was the recipient of the Karl Marx Scholarship. From 1978 to 1983, he worked at the Ministry of Education and then held various positions in Komsomol. From 1983 to 1985, he worked as a scientific researcher in Baku and Moscow, receiving the title of a professor from the USSR Education Ministry in 1990. From 1985 to 1992, he worked at the Transcaucasian bureau of Komsomol. In 1998, Baghirov was a Fulbright scholar lecturing at Indiana University in the United States. In 1990, he was appointed rector of the Institute of Youth which was transformed into Western University in Baku in 1992.^[2]
