Pauline Joyce Meyer (née Hutchison; June 4, 1943[1]) is an American Charismatic Christian author, speaker, and president of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Joyce and her husband, Dave, have four grown children and live outside St. Louis, Missouri. Her ministry is headquartered near the St. Louis suburb of Fenton, Missouri.

Early life

Meyer was born Pauline Joyce Hutchison in south St. Louis in 1943.[1] Her father went into the army to fight in World War II soon after she was born. She has said in interviews that he began sexually abusing her upon his return, and discusses this experience in her meetings.[2]

Joyce Meyer (1943-present) survived an abusive childhood to become an influential evangelical leader and founder of one of the world’s largest Christian ministries.

In 1976, after receiving a message from God, Meyer began teaching a Bible class. In 1980, she became an associate pastor at a St. Louis church and five years later, established her own ministry. Originally called Life in The Word, the name was changed to Joyce Meyer Ministries in 2003.

The non-denominational ministry is headquartered in Fenton, Mo., and she serves as president. Its programs range from radio and television programs to stadium-filling conferences internationally. Meyer also is the author of nearly 100 books.

Joyce Meyer Ministries is part of the prosperity gospel movement, which teaches that God wants to bless followers -- though not exclusively financially. It’s also how she defends her own wealth and what critics have called a lavish lifestyl
