A tribute to the hardest hitting man in football: Ken Norton Jr.
Ken Norton Jr. came to the 49ers for the 1994-95 season after winning consecutive Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys. Norton won his third consecutive Super Bowl championship in his first season with the 49ers - becoming the only player to ever achieve such an accomplishment.  Norton was a leader both on and off the field, and will be remembered as one of the hardest hitting men in football.

Named after his father, the one time boxing Heavy Weight Champion of The World, Norton, trademarked punching the goal posts or the air after making good plays.  This tribute of sorts, is just one example of the class act that Ken was.

The word pain was not in Ken's vocabulary. He played his final season with the 49ers injured, and started every game. In so doing he extended his iron man streak to 160 games in a row. The Washington Commanders announced today they have named Ken Norton Jr. as the team's linebackers coach. 

Norton Jr. joins the Commanders after recently serving as the linebackers coach for UCLA for the 2022-23 seasons. Norton Jr. brings 12 years of NFL coaching experience to Washinton including nine seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2010-14, 2018-21), and three with the Las Vegas Raiders (2015-17). Before becoming an NFL coach, Norton Jr. spent six years coaching at USC (2004-09) as a linebackers coach and an assistant head coach in his final season. 

In 2023, UCLA led the Pac-12 and ranked 10th in the nation in total defense (301.5 yards per game). In addition, the Bruins ranked second in the nation in rushing defense (80.8) and limited opponents to 18.4 points per game which was the 14th-best mark in the country.  

Prior to UCLA, Norton Jr. was a defensive coordinator for the Seahawks from 2018-2021. During his tenure in Seattle, the Seahawks advanced to the playoffs three times, and he coached

Kenneth Howard Norton Jr. (born September 29, 1966) is an American professional football coach and former player who is the linebackers coach for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the UCLA Bruins and was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 1988 NFL draft.
