Hijam Irabot, affectionately and aptly known as Lamyanba Irabot (literally, the Pioneer Irabot), stands as the unparalleled leader of the masses in the entire annals of Manipur’s history. No other figure can measure up to the towering stature of this pioneer. This is perhaps why the whole month of September, commemorating Irabot’s birth and passing, is observed annually with widespread and enthusiastic participation. As much as Irabot’s name holds a special place in the hearts of ordinary citizens, his persona remains a subject of enduring fascination for a diverse array of individuals, including social scientists, historians, revolutionaries, poets, and journalists alike.

IMPHAL, Sep 30 : The 128th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot was celebrated today by various clubs, associations, groups/bodies in Manipur.
AIKL
Apunba Irabot Road Kanba Lup (AIKL) celebrated the 128th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot at Irabot Road, Ema Keithel, Imphal on Monday.
It was attended by Kangla Food Production proprietor, Birendra Akhom; MPP youth leader, Arambam Akramjit; CPI Manipur state secretary, Sotikumar Meitei; Manipur University, Economics Department, Prof Chinglen Masinam; Two Stroke Club Manipur advisor, Th Tarzan; JDU Manipur state secretary, Md Sallauddhin; LJP Manipur state secretary, Romen Meitei and members of AZTECS.
At the event, AIKL event coordinator, Dr Thangjam Premananda said that the celebration was organised with the aim to instill the principles of Lamyanba Irabot, a remarkable leader who strove selflessly for the upliftment of the working class and the needy among the masses especially the youths.

Hijam Irabot (30 September 1896 – 26 September 1951), also known as Jana Neta (Meeyamgi Luchingba in Manipuri) Hijam Irabot,[1] was a politician and leader of Communist party of India and revolutionary social activist from Manipur. He fought against the social evils of the society. He later was jailed for supporting the second Nupi Lan, 1939. In the June/July 1948 election to the Manipur Assembly, Irabot won from the Utlou Constituency.
Early life
Irabot was born to Hijam Ibungohal Singh and Chongtham Ningol Thambalngambi at Pishum Thong Oinam Leikai. After his father's death, he moved with his mother to stay with his aunt at Moirangkhom Sougaijam leikai. He studied at Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Imphal, Manipur (still existing, located at the Western side of the Kangla Fort), till Class 7 and founded two student bodies, Bal Sang
