Harry K. Wong authored over 130 publications, including the leading book in education on how to start THE First Days of School, a monthly column in an online site for teachers, a CD set, and books on new teacher induction, classroom management, and instruction. He co-created an eLearning course on classroom management and appeared in the award-winning video series, The Effective Teacher.
His techniques have been adapted by thousands of educators for success in their schools and classrooms. He was called “Mr. Practicality” for his common sense, research-based, no cost approach to managing a classroom for high-level student success.

Harry K. Wong was an educator, educational speaker and author. His works include The First Days of School: How to Be an Effective Teacher and New Teacher Induction, as well as a variety of CD-Audio and DVD-format resources for teachers. The First Days of School has sold over 3.5 million copies and has had five editions printed.
Wong's publications provide advice on the improvement of academic instruction, classroom management and teacher expectations of students. He draws a distinction between classroom "discipline" and classroom "management" and suggests that through clear procedures and routines, teachers can promote behaviors avoid infractions, punishments, and ultimately, lost productive time in a classroom. He also asserted that the first few minutes with students on the first day can lead to the long-term success or failure of a teacher.[1][2]

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s College of Education and Behavioral Science will welcome two of the foremost authorities on effective teaching, Drs. Harry and Rosemary Wong. They are both award-winning former classroom teachers who focus on improving education by supplying teachers with the proper management skills. The Wongs will be discussing effective classroom management at the A-State Convocation Center on Tuesday, May 6 at 8 a.m.
