Daisy Buchanan on writing her love story for greedy girls

I first met Daisy Buchanan at the Port Eliot festival in Cornwall.

It started raining a few hours in, and barely stopped for the whole event. We were both speaking at the festival, and were introduced, briefly, by friends.

A day later, I was in a sea of festival-goers in wellies and waterproofs, trudging up a muddy path and muttering apologies while trying not to poke each other with their umbrellas, when I spotted Daisy and her husband Dale, sitting at a table under a tree without any raingear on, soaked to the skin but enjoying a jug of Pimms as if it was the gloriously sunny weekend we’d all hoped for.

I remember thinking then, “That woman is magnificent, and I need to know her.” I bought another jug of Pimms, pulled up a chair – and we’ve been friends ever since.

She’s a prolific writer, producing high-quality journalism and two non-fiction books: How To Be A Grown Up, which explains why millennials are doing better than they think at life, and The Sisterhood, a searingly honest and very funny family

Daisy Buchanan is a character in The Great Gatsby. She is the wife of Tom Buchanan and serves as Gatsby's love interest. She is also the cousin of Nick Carraway, the novel narrator.

Biography[]

Daisy Fay was born in 1899 to a wealthy family in Louisville, Kentucky. Like many women of the time, she married for money, particularly to Tom Buchanan. Daisy and Gatsby fell in love when he was a soldier, and she promised to wait for him when he went to fight in World War I, but a few years later, she married Tom Buchanan. The day before her marriage, she drank and she cried when she received Gatsby's letter, showing some regret, but the next day, she felt content about the marriage.

Personality[]

Daisy is characterized as a shallow, careless, and at times cheerful woman. However, she is neither as ignorant nor as fun-loving as she pretends to be.

In reality, Daisy might be slightly misunderstood. She is stuck in a loveless marriage to her husband, Tom Buchanan, who regularly cheats on her with his mistress Myrtle Wilson, the wife of George B Wilson.
